Feb 05, 2014· Good evening, I am about to install an electric water furnace (Hydra Revolution or Thermolec) to replace an old oil furnace (that now heats the water circulating around the house). While reviewing the schematic for the installation of a Thermolec furnace, I was surprised to see that the pump is located right aft of the heater, which means that the pump would pick up the water at its hottest
Get a QuoteI am going to address this as a circulating pump on the main water pipe leading to/from the boiler, inside the boiler metal outer housing - but very similar if an in-line circulting pump external to the boiler housing escept some of those are pipe threaded rather than flanged connections - both are common.

Get a QuoteA boiler's circulator pump is used to remove hot water from the boiler, and then pass it into heating devices such as the radiator or a convection pipe system. The power of the pump is enough to cause the water to travel right back up to the boiler from the pipework. Using a circulation pump is a great way of keeping water traveling throughout the system.
Get a QuoteAll circulator pumps are typically sized based on the heat load and head loss (pressure drop) for a given zone. Knowing the heat load (in BTU's) for a given zone, allows to calculate the required circulator pump's flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM). For hot water hydronic or radiant heating applications, the following equation can be used:
Get a QuoteThe pump is typically located on the return piping adjacent to the boiler. Some feel that the pumps work better if they pump away from the boiler. This means putting the pump on the supply piping. Either location is acceptable. Pumps are usually beside the boiler. They shouldn't be at a low point in the piping because sediment collects here.

I would set it on high, for the most circulation to get the most and fastest heat out of the boiler. Having the pump at the low point in the loop is good, as more pressure will lessen the likelihood of pump cavitation (if it is an open system). Location: The

Get a QuoteIt does not matter which side of the boiler gets the circulator pump: ultimately, from a functional viewpoint, it does not matter one bit which side of the heating boiler has the circulator pump mounted, supply side or return side. That is, the pump will work in either location and will move water through the heating piping loop(s).

Get a QuoteNov 14, 2012· All boilers today have low pressure cutouts that shut them down with an uncompensated leak. A circulator run dry will fail fairly quickly, at least most of them use the water to lubricate their bearings. Having the expansion tank before the pump helps to ensure the pump stays full of water and not create microbubbles or water flashing to steam.
Get a QuoteJul 22, 2010· From what I understand the best place to put a circulating pump is after the expansion tank of course. The tank goes on the air scoop, that ends up on the boiler supply at the high point right, so the potential exists for that pump to see some high water temps.
